Emilia Barabasz

The owner of the Firm. Attorney at law at the Warsaw Bar Association. She focuses on intellectual property, in particular copyright and related rights, cultural and scientific law, legal services for NGOs and EU funded projects.

She advises artists, creators, studios, film and advertising producers, influencers, cultural institutions, foundations, and other entities in the fields of culture, art, and science. She specializes in contracts and securing the client’s interests at the initial stage of a project. She has many years of experience in her field of expertise.

She has been cooperating with Nowy Teatr in Warsaw for the last 12 years, providing support in the full range of its activities. She is also an attorney for Maciej Stuhr, Ewa Kuryluk and Michał Korkosz (Rozkoszny). She has a vast know-how of the music industry, obtained not only while providing legal services to record labels (e.g. FONOBO/MTJ) and musicians (e.g. Czesław Mozil, Paula and Karol, Karolina Czarnecka), but also from her successful career as a band manager, booker and promoter of Polish and foreign concerts from 2009 to 2017.

She provides legal services to the Foundation for Polish Science in terms of duties as an Implementing and Intermediate Body in the system of implementation of structural funds and projects financed from European Funds. She also provides legal assistance to other foundations in the scope of their current activities, e.g. the Ocalenie Foundation, the Energy Forum and the WISE Foundation.

She works to secure equal rights for LGBT+ people in Poland. She is the Chairwoman of the LGBT+ Association at the Warsaw Bar Association and a co-founder of the lgbt+prawnicy initiative. She is involved in the field of the rule of law in Poland: she is the co-author of the report “Analysis and assessment of the legislative actions of the authorities of the Republic of Poland in the period from the beginning of the proceeding of the Sejm of the eighth term (i.e. 12 November 2015) to the end of 2017 as regards their compliance with the Constitution of the Republic of Poland of 2 April 1997”. She provided pro bono representation of foreigners in court-administrative proceedings against the Border Guard as part of the “Advocates on the Border” initiative (Terespol, 2017). For her “consistent commitment and support of citizens in actions for the protection of human rights”, she received a commendation from the Ombudsman, Prof. Adam Bodnar in 2019. Awarded “Merit for Equality” by the Polish Society of Anti-Discrimination Law.

Graduated from the Faculty of Law and Administration at the University of Warsaw and the Faculty of Political Science and Journalism at the University of Warsaw, specializing in European integration, where she obtained a degree with honours.
